Green Mountain Teasel Cleanup

Green Mountain Teasel Cleanup

Our troop spent several hours helping to clear out an invasive species known as Teasel on Green Mountain this week. Our job was to help the Lakewood Natural Resource Specialist, Lee Blair, to cut down all the tall growth so that the area could be treated to prevent further spread. It will take 2-3 years to clear out the Green Mountain infestation.

Common teasel is a highly invasive plant that can choke out desirable native growth and agricultural crops. The plants have stout, 2-foot taproots that anchor them firmly into the soil. A single plant can produce as many as 40 blooms, each of which can produce more than 800 seeds.
